Did you know you can gift a Crime Clinic session to your loved-on this Christmas? Find out more here.
The Crime Clinic – One-to-One Editorial Consults
Flexible one-to-one editorial consults for crime, thriller, and suspense writers who want clear, honest insight – without the commitment of a full edit.
Whether you need story clarity, feedback on pages, or help deciding what kind of edit your manuscript needs, these sessions are designed to give you just that — clear direction and space to think.
No commitment. No pressure. Just an hour (or less) of expert insight to help you move forward with confidence.
✍️ What’s Included
The Crime Clinic sessions are live video/phone calls, designed to be focused, flexible, and entirely shaped around your needs. There’s no written follow-up – just my full attention and tailored editorial advice.
You choose your session length based on how much time and depth you need:
💬 20 mins – Quickfire Consult
$35 CAD / £20
A focused call for 1–2 specific questions about your novel, writing process, or publishing path.
Best for:
- Talking through a plot knot or structural idea
- Exploring publishing options (trad vs self; explanations of the editing/publishing process)
- Getting clarity on what to do next
📌 No manuscript reading included.
🧠 40 mins – Extended Consult
$70 CAD / £35
More space to unpack your story questions and goals.
Great for:
- Discussing structure, pacing, or series arcs
- Revisions planning or outlining ideas
- Reflecting on feedback you’ve already received
📌 No manuscript reading included.
🗣️ 60 mins – Full Consult (No Sample)
$85 CAD / £45
Want tailored guidance on your project — without needing to prep anything in advance? This session is all about your questions. Whether you’re stuck in a messy middle, unsure how to go about publishing your book, want to talk about your genre, or need help figuring out your next steps — we’ll work through it together.
We might cover:
– Story structure, plot holes, or pacing concerns
– Editorial planning: what type of edit you need (and when)
– Indie vs. traditional: what’s best for your goals
– Publishing timelines, agent research, or submission strategies
📌 No manuscript reading included.
📖 60 mins – Full Consult + Sample Feedback
$150 CAD / £80
Want me to review your pages beforehand? This version includes a read-through of up to 2,500 words*, submitted at least 4 days before your session. I’ll make notes in advance and share detailed verbal feedback during our call.
We might cover:
– What’s landing in your prose — and what isn’t yet
– Whether you’re ready for editing (and which service suits your draft)
– How your opening pages might land with agents or readers
📌 This is a verbal-only session — no margin comments or written notes are provided (Want mark-up on your text? Ask about my Sample Edit or First Chapter Review services.)
✨ Note: This session is priced differently as it includes editorial prep time before we meet — so you’re getting tailored feedback, not just off-the-cuff advice.
*If you'd like to add an extra 2500 words to your sample, you can do so for an additional £45/$80 CAD. Please stipulate this in your booking.
💬BONUS: If you book a full edit within 3 months of your session, I’ll deduct this fee from your final invoice.
